Banking
Banking Hours Mon-Fri 08h30-14h30, Sat 08h30-11h00.
Traveller's Cheques Accepted in most hotels, guest houses, restaurants and shops. To avoid additional exchange
rate charges, travellers are advised to take traveller's cheques in US Dollars or Pounds Sterling. Credit/Debit
Cards and ATMs American Express, MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted; Diners Club has more limited use.
ATMs are available in Mahé and Praslin.


Currency
Seychelles Rupee (SCR; symbol ₨) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of Rp500, 100, 50, 25 and 10. Coins
are in denominations of Rp5 and 1, and 25, 10, 5 and 1 cents.

Communication
There are three official languages in Seychelles: Creole (a lilting, French-based patois), English and French. Many
Seychellois also speak fluent Italian or German.


Climate
A tropical climate rules the Seychelles, with two Monsoons determining the seasons. November to March is the time of
the Northwest Monsoon, and April to October is the time of the
Southeast Monsoon. Air temperature throughout the year
is between 24 and 30oC, with the water temperature between 26 and 30oC.

Islands
There are approximately 115 major islands that make up the Indian Ocean Islands, the island of  Seychelles lies north east of
Madagascar. Seychelles is made up of 25 administritive regions, 8 of these are refered to as Greater Victoria: Bel Air,
La Riviere Anglaise, Les Mamelles, Mont Buxton,Mont Fleuri,Plaisance,roche Caiman, and St Louis. Fourteen districts make
up the rural Mahé: Anse aux, Pins, Anse Boil eau, Anse Etoile, Au Cap, Anse Royale, Baie Lazare,Beau Vallon, Bel Ombre,
Cascade, Glacis, Grand'Anse Mahé, Pointe La Rue, Port Glaud and Takamaka. Praslin is made up of two districts namely
Baie Sainte Anne, Grand'Anse Praslin. La Digue is made up of the administritive region of La Digue.

Smoking
Customers at the Seychelles International and Domestic Airports have noticed that “No Smoking” signs have been posted
everywhere. Smoking is only allowed in designated areas.
 Drugs are taken very seriously, and are strictly forbidden.
Handling in drugs will lead to strong sentencing.


Taxations
Seychelles VAT rate: 12% to 15%

Time Difference
In winter the time difference in comparison to GMT is +4 hours (+3 hours CET), and in summer +3 hours GMT (+2 hours CET).

Petrol & Diesel (Gas)
On Mahe there exist several petrol stations, in Victoria, opposite the airport, etc. In the two villages on Praslin there are also petrol
stations. Opening times are usually Monday - Saturday 8:00 - 16:30 (some to 18:00), Sunday 8:00 - 11:00 (some 12:00).

Security
It is generally considered safe within Seychelles. As with visiting any foreign country, it is always advisable to be street wise.
 
World Heritage Sites

Aldabra Atoll
A Primordial Place,
Aldabra is known for its abundant flora and fauna. At approximately 70 miles in perimeter, Aldabra is one of
the earlth's largets coral atolls. Four large channels cut through Aldabra, separating them into 4 main islands (Picard,
Polymnie,Malabar and Grand Terre) two sides of the channel are too distant to make out. The first view of the inside of the
lagoon is breathtakingly beautiful. 

Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve
On the island of Praslin years ago this island was covered by coco demer palm trees, due to humans, this island has not been
the same since the human race has changed the abeyance of the island.

Praslin Island
This is the second largest island 48km per square metres the islands population consists of 6500 people.
  
Mahé is the largest island in the Seychelles and is home to  the capital city of Victoria, 90% of Seychelle's total population
lives in Mahé.



 
Greater Victoria
Sometimes called Port Victoria, the capital Seychelles and is Africa's smallest capital.

La Digue
La Digues main industry is tourism especially well known for its beach, Ansé Source d'Argent
 

Kavadi Thaipoosum
The Hindu community first started this annual event in 1993, with all faiths gathering together. The purpose of kavadi is in
return for the prayer to Lord Murugan amid you would need to carry milk in small pots for his blessings.

Seychelles Art Festival
This annual event is held in Mahé, with various communities which come together to share in all sorts of arts and culture.
There would be numerous exibitions, activies of practical influences as well as the Ministry of development with the youth
to grow in the arts and culture forum.

Fete Afrique
The Fete events was celebrated many years ago with many favourites from music to dancing to the very best foods. The
festival brought many people together in 1999 and it was thus decided to repeat the cultural event every year on the 25th of
May. Some of the best local musicians and international performers will be entertaining the crowds.The event has brought even the
famous fashion designer Nandipa Madikizar all the way from South Africa to show and express her colours within.

Seychelles Regatta
This blue ocean event is held on a yearly basis with 36' to 57' catamarans and crews of 6 to 8 people this is a great
opportunity to fish in one of the worlds most enriched fishing spots. This event enables you to race with some of the most top
sailors. This competition brings together about 20 companies all over the world to take part in this semi-professional competition
which allows you to view fabulous sites and sailing around 115 most popular islands in the Seychelles
.

Agricultural & Horticultural Show
This show has been established  to commemorate Seychelles' National Day on 18th June, this gathers both competitive and
non-competitve citizens to share in the culture of agriculture. Endorsed by the minister of environment this event has been made
possible, it is a collaboration of both natural resources & transport.


Seychelles Round Table Regatta
This event is held free at Beau Vallon Beach, a fun filled 2-days, with water sports being the focus. There are also events such as
yacht races, swimming competitions, amateur boxing tournament, beach tugs-of-war etc. Markets of various kinds. With foods to
make your mouth water, coco nut curries with refreshments around every corner. The annual event is celebrated in August
every year.

Creole Festival
This is the most oldest event held in Seychelles, always on the last week in October. The people of Seychelles all come together
to form a big party. This fiesta is celebrated in music, dance, arts, craft, cuisine and customs
.

Subios

This  is the country’s annual underwater photo and film festival, the aim of this festival is to showcase the worlds most
beautiful underwater life. The festival includes taking photos under the waves and video competitions. The major event 
welcomes famous speakers to present their knowledge to the local community as well as tovisitors form all over the world
who come to watch this unique event.
